Share
A share is one small slice of ownership in a company — buy a few, own a tiny piece.
ETF
An ETF (exchange-traded fund) bundles many stocks into one ticker, so one purchase buys a whole basket.
Dividend
A dividend is a cash payment some companies send you regularly just for holding their stock.
Index fund
An index fund tracks a whole market (like the S&P 500) instead of betting on one company.
Diversification
Diversification means spreading money across many companies so one bad day doesn't sink your whole plan.
Volatility
Volatility is how much a price jumps around — higher volatility means bigger swings, up and down.
Market order
A market order buys or sells right now at the current price, instead of waiting for a specific price.
Average cost
Your average cost is the typical price you paid per share, blended across every purchase you made.
P/L
P/L (profit and loss) shows whether a position is up or down compared to what you paid for it.
Withdrawal
A withdrawal moves your cash out of the portfolio and back to you — you can do this any time.
